Stanley Kramer directs this masterly and thought provoking evocation of the disparate characters returning to Germany from Mexico in 1933. The seriously powerful cast includes Vivien Leigh as a divorcee desperate for love and lost youth, Jose Ferrer as a budding Nazi foreshadowing the brutishness to come. Nominated for eight Academy Awards at the time, this black and white classic continues to have relevance and a warning for every generation.

Torquay Museumwww.thedivingbellmovie.co.uk
Thanks to everyone who cast their votes for the ‘Members’ choice’ screening in December. And the winner is… The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, an extraordinary and mesmerising account of Jean-Dominique Bauby, who can only tell his incredible story by blinking his left eyelid after a kind of stroke left him paralysed with ‘Locked-in’ syndrome. This French film won two Golden Globes and the Cannes Film Festival award for Best Director, so obviously our members have very good taste!
All screenings will start at 7.30. Please arrive no later than 7.15 to ensure admission.
NEW MEMBERS ALWAYS WELCOME!!If you would like to join the Torbay Film Club and support us in screening the finest independent and world cinema, in Torbay please print and complete the Application Form. All members who join in October will be able to see the next 8 screenings for just £24.
